Truth Tuesday

I haven't done a Truth Tuesday in a while. So why not do one today, I thought, before I run off to my African Dance class, and then after that, a study session.

A few truths for you. Random things that have been bouncing around in this head of mine.

  • Today I ate one of those yogurt whips. The flavor was chocolate mousse. Sounds good, but it wasn't. With every spoonful, I felt like gagging. Probably because it was like I was eating thrown up pudding. Really sweet tasting thrown up pudding.

  • Nakedness makes me laugh. I know, I'm so immature. But every time I'm in the locker room at the gym and run into a naked lady, I just have this strange sensation of wanting to giggle.

  • I am trying to stay real focused for the next week. Because next Thursday, I'm getting on a plane and taking off for Hawaii. Talk about the most rad thing to happen to me all month. Brian and I were planning on a rather boring spring break, but then my mom randomly talked to me yesterday and we arranged this spur of the moment trip. Aloha to that.

  • After we get home from our amazing trip with my family, Brian and I will be moving to a new apartment. We've been keeping it on the down low. But I'll tell you more about that story in time to come. Guess I better start gathering up cardboard boxes.

  • It is my least favorite week this week. It's elections week at Utah State University. This means I have to walk to all my classes and stare solidly at the ground as to not make eye contact with any of the overbearingly friendly people who want me to vote for them. And this also means that every time I get on facebook, I feel so proud when I see I have 18 notifications, only to find out they are all about different support groups I was added to against my will. Talk about a let down.

And just so you won't feel let down that there is no picture on this post, here is a random picture from two summers ago of me on a horse. A much bigger me. Because that me was on USU's track team and lifted weights religiously and drank lots of protein shakes. Good times.

Just Shooting Some Pool on a Friday Night

Occasionally, we spend Friday nights at the local bar in town. Which the majority of people in this town don't do. Which is probably strange to the rest of the world. We have plenty of pizza parlors and ice cream shops, but not a lot of bars. This is because not a lot of people around here drink alcoholic beverages. But we like our greasy pizza and ice cream sundaes.

Brian and I don't drink, but we kind of like the atmosphere of a bar every now and again. They have great food, a jukebox, and hourly rates on pool tables.

So Friday night, we flashed our ids at the bouncer, ordered mugs of Coca-Cola and played game after game of pool. We also snapped a couple quick pictures on Brian's phone, and chuckled at the couple on the table next to us since they were so drunk they couldn't even hit the white ball, let alone line it up with another ball on the table.

I don't think I've ever received as many odd looks as I do when I enter the bar atmosphere. It's probably because I'm fairly innocent, and it shows in my appearance. I'll have to contemplate getting a snake tattoo around my bicep with the words "Deadly". That'll trick 'em.

Sunday Best: Ghost

Here's a last minute Sunday Best for all ya'll.

And just so you know, I was embarrassed of the following pictures. The reason being because I look like a ghost.

Quick story so you'll understand why you can now call me Kelsey the Friendly Ghost (Casper aint got nothin' on me). You see, this last week, I completely ran out of my foundation. And when I say completely ran out, I mean the sides of the bottle were wiped clean. You see, unlike my usual Wet and Wild and Covergirl purchases, I like to buy Estee Lauder foundation. Which is probably not expensive for many makeup loving ladies. But it's a little more expensive for me. So I made sure to get my money's worth with that bottle. Well, when I purchased it, I'm pretty sure it was late spring/early summer of last year. So I was much more tan than I am right now. Which means during the last few months, I've been living in denial, strolling about with an orange face. Yep, I've been one of those tacky looking girls where my neck probably doesn't match my face color at all. It's fine. I didn't want to face reality and realize I really needed to go three shades lighter! Which happened after the makeup lady sat me down and showed me that the three shades lighter actually matched my skin tone.

And she kept saying things like, "Wow girl, you get really tan in the summer."

And I asked her, "Well, what do I do in a few months when I get tan?"

And she answered with, "Many women buy two bottles. They have their summer shade and their winter shade."

And I thought to myself, "Hmmm, sounds like someone wants to make more sales."

But I guess for now, I will waltz around, looking like a ghost. Hey, maybe I'll even try walking through walls. Luckily, since these pictures were taken on Friday, I think I've mastered a way to look less ghost-like by using a generous amount of bronzer and blush. At least it feels very generous.

Oh dear, if anyone has any make-up tips, please give them to me. I know nothing. Now feast your eyes upon some cheetah print flats, red pants, red lips, and a very transparent looking girl.

Sweet Victory

For the past few weeks, I've felt super discouraged about school. Like it's just been a pain in my neck. I feel like I'm constantly running around from place to place, working on projects in between classes, editing video clips, shooting video clips, and then getting home at 10 or 11 at night after being on campus since 8 that morning. Fun stuff. And what is even more frustrating is that many times, all the work and craziness just feels like it's in vain. I ask myself constantly, "Why do I even do this to myself?" I work my hiney off and stress myself to the max. Seriously, half the time I dream at night about the things I have to get done the next day, so then I just wake up already feeling exhausted. And then in the end, I often feel like a lot of things I do go unappreciated or unnoticed.  As is the life of a student.

Well, over the last few days, I've been reminded of just why I love my major so much. Which is good because I was considering switching my major to billiards or something. I feel I've been rewarded, so maybe I'll shut up and stop complaining about school for the time being. What happened you ask?

Well, my story for the week ended up not working out and it was lame. This happened on Tuesday. Our show is every Wednesday. This made me want to shut my head in a heavy door because this has happened to me now for three weeks straight. So while I'm in the newsroom brainstorming with my teacher, the police scanner suddenly comes up and we fall silent. In the newsroom, the police scanner is like your mama. You listen to her while she's speaking at all times. Or you might get your face slapped. From the police scanner, we gathered that a car had slid off the road and into the Logan river. We didn't know where exactly, but we gathered that it was close to the infamous spot where several people have wrecked, including the family that about drowned  around the turn of the New Year (it was a big deal). A guy that rescued them shot the windows out with his gun, remember that? I don't know why he couldn't have just used a rock, but whatever. The gun worked I guess. Any ways, Champagne (my teacher) tells me to head up there with a camera if I want to risk it and that I could come late to class, since I had class with him in an hour's time. Then he mentions, "If it's at the same spot, there's a chance that the Salt Lake stations will want it."

Pressure is on.

I'm excited, but a part of me is worried. But I'm not going to whine to Champagne about it. You see, the last time I went up the Logan Canyon in a winter storm was a little over a year ago, and I came back in a cop car with glass in my hair and cuts on my arms. I, too, had rolled off the icy road and into the freezing water. You can read the complete adventure of mine and Brian's wreck right here.

So I come to the quick conclusion that this wreck must be shot and I'm the girl to shoot it. So I grab all my heavy camera equipment and start running for the bus so it can drop me off at the parking lot where my van is parked. On the way, I get a call from Champagne telling me that he just got word that the accident happened in the same spot and that he's calling all the major news stations to see if they want to buy the story. Shortly after, I get three text messages in a row. All from Champagne.

"Channel 5 wants it."
"Channel 2 wants it."
"So does Channel 4."

Now the pressure is really on.

Once I get to my van, I make my way up the canyon. Of course, I'm trying to hurry so I can make it in time, but I still drive very safely and carefully. The accident occurred about three miles after the spot where Brian and I crashed. When I get to the spot where we rolled, all I can seem to hear is the sound of the window wipers violently squeaking back and forth across my windshield, and my knuckles were seriously white from gripping onto the steering wheel so tightly. After passing the bend, I turn the radio up, trying to calm my nerves. Then I make it to the spot. After an insanely sharp corner, I see a bridge. The car is under the bridge, halfway in the water. I park ahead of the accident a ways and unload all my equipment. I think about how I should have brought gloves or a hat, because it's cold. And wet. Right as I get to the scene, the tow truck conveniently pulls up, so I get footage of the car being pulled up. Then I find the girl who was driving the car. She's obviously shaken up. She tells me she was driving and it was her boyfriend's car. I offer her my umbrella. She takes it. Then I tell her the story about the time I went in the river with my boyfriend too, but now we're married. Then she asks why I have a camera. I tell her my situation and then slyly ask for an interview. She wipes away her tears and agrees. I then interview the cop on the scene. Mission accomplished.  My feet and hair are drenched and my fingers are numb, but mission accomplished.

Once I got back to campus, I sent the files to all the news stations. I was exhausted, but I felt like I'd accomplished something. I overcame my fear of the snowy canyon. I shot real, legit news. And I really felt in my element, being there on the scene, asking questions, running about with the camera. It was so great. So tired and wet, but very, very happy, I sat and watched the 5 o'clock news. Come to find out, the accident was the lead story for Channel 5. MY STORY. Well, the story I sold. And I met Alex Cabrero, a reporter with Channel 5, later that night. He came up to Logan to do live shots for their news block at 6 and at 10. Talk about exciting. So basically, I'm just happy that I get to have a taste of sweet victory for the moment being. And I'm gonna feel mega cool when I get a check in the mail from Channel 5.

Sunday Best: Caging the Beast

I'm breaking out like I'm thirteen again and for the past week I've felt as if all my clothes fit me awkwardly. I've  been tempted once or twice to drop out of school and just move to a beach in some foreign country and sell t-shirts with funny sayings on them. And I'd let my hair grow out and never comb it so I would end up with some wicked dreds and life would just be oh so chill. But then I remember that education is important. . .yadda yadda yadda. . .I want my degree. . .blah blah blah.

I really do enjoy school. I love learning new things. It's exhilarating. I just hate how much it consumes my life sometimes. And I just want to have a free schedule where I don't have to meet a deadline or stress about getting a project done. You see, I have this perfectionist living within me, usually I keep her caged up, but every now and again she escapes and makes my life treacherous. And I go crazy and just want to kill her so I can enjoy life. Because life should be enjoyed.

So on Saturday, I compromised a bit, I worked on homework during the day and by night, I partied it up a bit. We went with one of our favorite couples, Drew and Megan, to dinner and a movie. Then we even indulged in a shake after. And I wore an outfit that made me feel so free and fine, and the makeup on my face even seemed to cover up my zitty face a bit. Life was good.

I plan on doing the same thing tomorrow with my day off. Catch up on work and then play a little later in the day. Maybe think of some way to honor all my US Presidents. We'll see if I can stay focused, and we'll also see how long I can keep the perfectionist beast on her leash.

I love you readers out there. Enjoy life for me, will ya? Besides cute outfits, I recommend: yoga, bubble baths, cuddling, running, laughing, petting puppies, and drinking chocolate milk.

A Discussion About Channing Tatum

Tonight I am going to dinner and "The Vow" with some of my girlfriends. I am excited. Mostly just to be with good company though. I am kind of excited for the movie, but I've heard from a few people it was a bit of a let down. I'll just keep my expectations low and then maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

You see, I'm pretty sure that about 97%  of the women who raved about this movie were just going so they could watch Channing Tatum. I am one of the 3%. I'm actually a big Rachel McAdams fan. I might even have a bit of a girl crush on her.

It's not that I have anything against poor Channing, it's just that I sometimes don't understand all the hype. He is not a very good actor. All of his roles act the same way, because he only knows how to act one way basically. And let's get real, his best role was probably when he was the punk white kid on Coach Carter. I mean, Channing Tatum is okay looking, but I don't find that there is anything special about him. Yeah, I get it, girls. He has rock hard abs. But rock hard abs have never been the thing to really turn me on. I guess I get turned on by a charming personality and a tasteful sense of humor.

I just feel like Channing Tatum has little personality. Imagine yourself spending a day with him. I imagined it, and the whole imagining was entirely awkward. I feel like the conversation would be. . .painful. What would you talk about? Maybe how he went behind society's back and was the poor kid who danced with the rich girl in "Step Up"? Or maybe you could talk about how they are probably now making "Step Up 10". Or you could always ask him how he feels that in "Dear John", his girlfriend dumped him for her old man neighbor.

All joking aside, I'm sure Channing Tatum is an alright guy. He just needs to do something quirky and stop being the hot guy that takes his shirt off. That's all. And I apologize for being cynical. . .but you know deep down I'm right.

Sealed With a Kiss

I know everyone is sick of the posts about Valentine's Day. So I'll go ahead and apologize.

I'm sorry.

Valentine's Day is pretty cool I suppose. I feel like I don't appreciate it as much as some people, and I also don't hate it as much as some people. I mean, it's nice. It's nice getting a card in the mail from your grandma and a box of delectable chocolates from your parents. It's nice having your husband take you out to dinner so you don't have to worry about cooking. . .not that I would know because I usually don't cook and we usually do eat out (maybe one day I'll get better at that). But that stuff is all very nice. It's nice to celebrate love. I wish we could make a bigger deal out of celebrating love though, you know what I mean? Get school and work off or something. Because Valentine's Day just shadows in comparison to Christmas, the 4th of July, and Halloween (my three favorite holidays). But oh well, I'm all about celebrating, I think I'm just a bit bummed because Brian and I were so busy that we didn't have a lot of time to celebrate Valentine's Day. But the time we did have was top notch.

In a nutshell, this is what happened:

  • Monday night, Brian had a night class, so I waited for him to get home and then we went to dinner at about eight. We went to Le Nonne. It's one of my most favorite restaurants ever. They make homemade Italian food. If you ever go, try the spinach ravioli. The sauce that covers it is to die for! After dinner, we bought a cheesecake platter at the grocery store, because cheesecake is the most romantic dessert of all desserts. We also bought a heart-shaped balloon. It just sounded like a fun thing to do. And then I made Luna chase the balloon string all about the kitchen because I'm an animal torturer like that.

  • On actual Valentine's Day, I was busy all day long with school projects. I did get to visit a chocolate factory though and see how they make chocolates. I shot it all with my camera and later went up to campus to edit it. Then I had African Dance that night, and since I have already racked up so many absences, I went early and stayed longer so I could make them up. All that hip swaying and head bobbing for three hours wore me right out and I didn't arrive home until ten at night. But BWell and I exchanged gifts. It was nice.

Below are pictures to prove that what I just told you is real. Also, this was mine and Brian's first Valentine's Day as married hooligans, but it was actually our third Valentine's Day spent together. He's been such a good Valentine the last three years that I think I'll keep him. Probably forever actually.

 Delicious calamari at Le Nonne

In the middle picture, I had just whacked the light fixture with my balloon. You can tell from the look on my face.
Sometimes I wrap presents with all the newspaper we have. It works.

We only had one razor scooter. Now since we'll have two, our rides in the summertime will be much more enjoyable.
Brian did well. He got me a gift certificate for 2 one hour massages (one of which I'm getting tomorrow). And since I was gross and sweaty, I just made Luna pretend to me. Did I fool you?

Heart Patches

Oh yeah. So it was totally Valentine's Day yesterday. For me it was more like "be at school all day long and not get home until 10 at night" Day. But Brian and I still found some time for lovin'. Because that lovin' is important stuff. But I'll just wait and tell you how we celebrated in a different post.

For now, all I wish to do is tell you about how I cut hearts out of cute fabric and then sewed them onto the elbows of my sweater. That's right, on the elbows of my sweater. Not on my actual elbows. I have a feeling that would hurt badly. However, there was no pain involved in the making of these heart-shaped elbow patches, only Valentine joy.

In case you want to jazz up your own elbows (on your sweaters), here is the tutorial I used.

Doodlings

Brian and I woke up this morning with very little motivation to go to church. Yeah, we're naughty kids. But let's be honest, every once in a while it just happens.

Round of applause to us, we set aside the ideas of playing sick and trudged our way to church, me in heels and Brian with a tie knotted neatly around his neck.

However, we did accidentally get distracted and started doodling during the time we probably should have been listening. We played the animal duel game. You know, where you take turns drawing an animal that will kill the animal drawn before? It's a delightful game. So if you haven't played, try it sometime. But maybe not during church.

The little kitty was the last animal created. Brian drew it, and he also made a collar and wrote Luna across it. So I guess he won, but he won with a cheap shot. How could I kill Luna? And Brian made claim that Luna has the ability to kill all creatures, which is probably true.

We are going to be such bad influences on our children.

Sunday Best: Paper Hearts & Chocolate Bars

The past week was basically a nightmare. Everything that could have gone wrong . . . went wrong. I had zero time for fun. Zero time for blogging. And, along with that, zero time to even think about the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday. I haven't cut a single heart out of paper and I've made no major chocolate purchases. Valentine's Day is on Tuesday? Say what?

If it helps any, I did throw on a heart necklace for church today. And I wore red shoes too. But that's about all I've got.

heels: Shoe Carnival, tights: Kohls, skirt: Maurices, shirt: Ross

Happy day of love to you all! May we each have time to do something semi-romantic and make ourselves sick off chocolate bars.

xoxo

6 Months Later . . .

Sunday marked six months of marriage for Brian and I. Which is crazy. I know six months isn't very long in the grand scheme of things, but it's still just strange. It feels like our wedding was merely weeks ago. Yet, at the same time it feels as if Brian and I are ancient and have known each other's souls for ages and ages.

And six months later . . . we are just getting our thank yous done and hopefully they'll start being sent in the mail promptly. Sorry about the delay to those of you who were thinking we were rude and ungrateful. It's just taken us a while. And I felt like I had to write everyone a special message besides just, "Thanks for the egg beater." And well, things like school and work sadly had to come before things like being gracious and thoughtful. What is this world coming to, right?

Now to end with a mushy message for Brian, and to make everyone that is not Brian squirm in their seats. . .

Brian Grant Weller,

I love you.

I love the way you lock the door to our apartment when you leave me there alone. I like to think that's you wanting to keep me safe (if it's really not, then let's just pretend, k?)

I love how you make me laugh.

I love it when you wake up in the middle of the night just to go get me an extra blanket. Not because I said I was cold, but you just assume I am. It's cute.

I love how ambitious you are. You believe in yourself and you believe in me. And you believe in all our crazy dreams.

I love it when you don't rush me to get ready, but instead just start playing on your guitar right by the bathroom door. It's a much better sign than complaining.

I love it when you just play your guitar. Anytime. Anywhere.

I love how hard you tried to make me happy today after we lost my SD card. We'll probably never find it. But I guess there are more important things. Like loving each other. And making each other happy.

Thanks for being in my life to remind me of the important things.

With Love,
Kels

Sunday Best: America & Football

I'm all about being patriotic. I love America. But some Americans just make me shake my head a little. Wanna know why? One word: ignorance. It absolutely drives me nuts when people say stuff like, "Make foreigners that come to America learn English. This is America!" Well, what's so wrong with Americans trying to learn a second language. Anyone ever thought that might be a good thing?

I could go on, but I'll stop myself. Let me just say, let us all be well-rounded, curious, understanding Americans. Not hot-headed, ignorant Americans.

Speaking of America, I'm watching the Super Bowl right now. And honestly, what could be more American than the Super Bowl? What's that you say? Apple pie? Red, white, and blue?

Well, what if I went ahead and wore a blue and white striped button-up and red cable sweater, combined it with combat boots, and stood in front of a fruit stand (where I'm sure buckets and buckets of fruits were purchased to put in pies), and what if I sported this outfit during Super Bowl weekend?

I believe that just screams American.

button-up: Old Navy, cable sweater: Old Navy, jeggings: Kohls, boots: ROSS, necklaces: vintage and handmade, earrings: c/o Violet Hill Boutique

I sported this cozy outfit on Saturday, after what had been a long and treacherous week. Saturday was spent sleeping in, going to a baby shower, eating delicious dinner and doing some shopping for Super Bowl Sunday treats.

Now I must get back to the football game. Are you cheering for the Giants or the Pats?

If Today Wa a Song: "Sway Your Head"

On occasion, I really miss having music on my blog. The day I removed my playlist, a piece of my heart got removed too. Okay, not really, but in all reality, I do miss the tunes every now and again. So I thought, "Why not share a song every once in a while?"

So I've decided to now and again share a song of inspiration. Think of it as 'If Today Wa a Song'. And if today was a song . . . it would have to be "Sway Your Head" by We Shot the Moon.

Today was pretty rough for me. Exhausting. Just mentally and physically exhausting. But I can't help but kind of laugh at it all. If life weren't stressful and hard sometimes, then we'd never progress. And I'm all about progression. I mean, remember when I was fifteen and didn't have a clue how to apply eyeliner? Yeah, progression is good. So I suppose that today I have progressed. And things always work out. At the end of the day, I still get to come home to my kitty and my Brian, and Brian kisses my head and we eat nice, warm food for dinner.

Now enjoy the song, performed by some dashing young men. My favorite line of the song: Did you see the sunrise that came up for you? Seriously, such a good perspective on things.
